WHY MINT CHIP?
“Because it’s refreshing and exciting and has little bits of awesome inside!”
Founded in 2012 initially as a solo practice by Jen Stine, Mint Chip Studios aims to provide memorable, practical, and high-impact counsel. Our work reflects a deep concern for developing healthy communities and ecosystems.
In this spirit, Jen and her team seek challenging, delicate or unexpected assignments that will flourish with our signature exuberance, compassion, and insight. Most projects touch on questions around learning, collaboration, and leadership--which means they involve some of Jen’s favorite things: people, complexity, and communication.
We liken our role to mint chocolate chip ice cream:
MINTY: a refreshing and distinctive flavor.
IMPACT: our influence is greater than the sum of the parts.
NOT A MAIN MEAL: a little goes a long way. We come in to leave you in a better place. Our engagements succeed, in part, because we’re outsiders.
TENACIOUS: have you ever grown mint? It is determined. Like us. We do real work.
CHOCOLATY: refined but comforting too; yummy and discerning. Food for all times. Sometimes a quick “chip” is enough – other times a LOT of hot fudge is needed.
HUMAN: ok. Ice cream isn’t human, but this work is about people, not policies. You have important dreams, complicated lives, & messy feelings. We honor that.
INTEGRITY: mint also connotes “classy.” Blue-chip companies are considered world-class. We strive to be the best in our field.
POTENT: a little chip packs a big punch. Low touch, powerful and tangible results.
SPIRITED: this work is hard, and sometimes feels awfully serious. Our name reminds us that work is most effective when it’s fun.
Said another way (as Dwight D Eisenhower once did), “A sense of humor is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done.”
TOP 5: did you know mint chip ice cream is one of the top 5 favorite ice cream flavors in the US? We aspire to the same popularity.

UNEXPECTED: consulting need not be dull, self-important, or full of jargon. Our counsel is commonsense, straightforward, and sometimes stealthy.
DISTINCTIVE (& DELICIOUS!): it doesn’t go with everything. And it’s ok that not everyone likes it. Those who do tend to LOVE mint chip. We like that it inspires strong feelings.
INTEGRATED: fresh (mint) and refined (chocolate) make the ice cream unique and special. Our work is like that – mixing flavors, ideas, and people together.
ORGANIC: green, growing, nonlinear, unpredictable.
SENTIMENTAL: mint chip was Jen’s dad’s favorite ice cream. It has always been Jen’s, too. A reminder that all our work is done with heart.
