TEAM COACHING

Does your organization rely on teams to get things done? Are you a member of a team that does not yet seem to be operating at its full potential?  Many teams can benefit from an outside coach who observes them in action, and then provides feedback around key issues. Team leaders often appreciate a knowledgeable advisor or sounding board when tackling new or difficult situations.

Mint Chip Studios designs custom team coaching engagements based on the team’s level, situation and interpersonal dynamics. We are always adding to our library of tools and best practices. Most engagements begin with some kind of assessment so the team (and its leader/s) can develop a clear learning objective and define desired results.

Too often, we hear clients complain that “teamwork” or “team development” feels overly squishy, personality driven, or random. We strive to bring data and science into these murky areas to help clarify, depersonalize and professionalize work dynamics. Typically, team coaching focuses on improving individual and team effectiveness in one of the following four areas:

Team Management Profile (TMP)

As an example of the type of assessments we use at Mint Chip Studios, here is a brief overview of The Team Management Profile (TMP). TMP is a personalized report created by Team Management Systems (TMS), which gives individuals and teams valuable insights into the way they prefer to work and preferred roles within teams. This feedback helps to improve team processes and performance, which in turn can improve motivation and job satisfaction. Mint Chip Studios uses the TMP primarily when teams want to address:

The TMP Equation

  • “The Team’s Work” generate discussion and alignment about which work functions need more focus in order to improve performance

  • “The People Doing the Work” Better understand how people prefer to work to create more effective working relationships and leverage diversity

  • “How People Work Together” Develop action plans to emphasize the strengths of the team and address weaknesses

Completing a TMP is a web-based activity, and has optional applications available to support sustained development. TMS, an Australian Company, was established in 1985 by Drs. Charles Margerison and Dick McCann. Researchers and practitioners have relied on their groundbreaking products and services to help build sustainable performance for over 35 years.

The TMP highlights an individual’s major and related areas of work preference, including information focused on:

  1. Work Preferences

  2. Decision Making

  3. Leadership Strengths

  4. Interpersonal Skills

  5. Team Building

  6. Management Style
